A holiday with a difference

If your imminent holidays feel a bit like Ground Hog Day, dream a little. Here are our favourite unusual holiday destinations, and the things we highly recommend you pack before you go.

Giraffe Manor, Kenya

  • A camera. No one will believe it when you say you had breakfast with a giraffe.
  • Snacks. The friendly giraffes and their hungry tummies will come-a-knocking to your window every morning and evening.
  • Flea repellent. Just in case they get too close.

Mongolia

  • A spare set of woolly socks. It sometimes gets down to -30 degrees Celsius.
  • Padded pants. Mongolia is the home to the two-humped Bactrian camel.
  • No interest in vegetarianism. You’ll be eating a lot of mutton whether you like it or not.

Transylvania, Romania

  • Hiking boots. Attempt to top the Carpathian Mountains.
  • A good-looking flag. Find a castle and claim it as your own.
  • Loads of garlic. We all know about Dracula.

Kingda Ka at Six Flags Great Adventure Park, New Jersey, USA

  • A hankering for heights. Kingda Ka is the tallest rollercoaster in the world (139 metres).
  • A need for speed. Kingda Ka is the second-fastest rollercoaster in the world (0-128 miles per hour in 3.5 seconds).
  • Great salivary gland control. The G forces are guaranteed to make your face go all funny.

Space

  • Travel sickness remedies. You will be travelling a million miles in one day, after all.
  • Vitamin C tablets. You won’t have much fruit/real food intake while you’re away.
  • Space Man lollies. Just in case you’ve forgotten where you are.
