Most of you remember Gimmie5 as the GrabOne trading card game where you won that great prize. Amie and Annalie remember it as the place where they became friends.
Amie first spotted Annalie posting in the Gimmie5 comments: “She was saying things like, ‘Who’s got this card, and who’s found out how to do this…'” Amie recognised Annalie’s avatar on Twitter, and started talking to her in both places. “Once we realised who we were, we started interacting on a more personal level. But our husbands were getting fed up! They were like, ‘you’re spending all your time on Gimmie-Grab-Some!’ Then I broke my rule that I don’t friend anyone in Facebook that I haven’t met in real life – Annalie had the Time Leap card! And she was willing to give it to me! That was definitely a reason to break my Facebook rule.
“We started chatting heaps on Facebook, while still interacting heaps on the GrabOne stuff – we were sharing cards with each other and gifting cards – trying to find out how to get all the special bonus rewards. I never won a really big prize, but I did win $100 credit!
“Annalie and I just got to messaging each other about how we should meet up in real life. I’m not usually into making friends with random people on Facebook, but being able to see her in all these places – Twitter, Facebook and Gimmie5 – made me realise she wasn’t a psychopath.
“One day the woman in the queue in front of me at Burger Fuel turned around and said, ‘Are you Amie?’ It was Annalie!
“Not long after that, she grabbed the GrabOne deal for the Trentham races, and asked if me and my husband Paul wanted to get some – so we all went together to the races! Now Annalie and I are really good friends. We see each other once a fortnight if not more – we’ve been to each others houses for dinner and go out for brunch a lot.
“We check cheap deals, and events, and try and arrange to see them together. I’m addicted to GrabOne! When I wake up I check Twitter, GrabOne – and buy some stuff – and then check Facebook.
“It’s funny, people say to me, ‘Aw I missed that deal, how do you see all the deals?’ You just have to check for them every morning. The phone app is so easy to use. Still, Annalie and I will spot something and ask one another – ‘Did you see that deal?’ and then arrange to go out together.
“I think you should bring back Gimmie5! I’d play it.”
Do you think we should bring back Gimmie5? Let us know in the comments!
Yes I’m in for Gimmie5. It was definitely fun & a little addictive! OK maybe a lot! By the way, Amie (mentioned in the story) is my big sister whom I love to bits!
Yes Congrats Grabone! All power to you, great for a Kiwi company to be going so sotnrg! Can I request that maybe you split Dunedin from Invercargill and do their coupons separately though, Dunedin is a fairly large and happening city in its own right (120,000) so seems a little demeaning to be paired with another small city over 200kms away. Would be a bit like doing Auckland as Auckland-Wellsford coupons . Good luck for the future!
