We asked our Facebook friends what they really wanted for Christmas! Over 600 replies later, we have a pretty good idea what the nation’s thinking of.

Cats love Christmas trees.

The material things matter…

Kiwis are really specific about what they’d like in their Christmas stockings. Soraya H is after “The Lord of the Rings trilogy on DVD”. Robbie D wants a “Sonic hedgehog calender”. The most commonly requested item is an iPhone, closely followed by a car… and a winning lottery ticket!

Some of us have big dreams…

Toni D wants “a mansion full of puppies and kittens.” Kelly W is hoping to find “an unlimited credit card” in her Christmas stocking.  Rikki P wants a giraffe, and Samantha B wants “a billion dollars.” Don’t we all! Petunia M wants “Ryan Gosling – or failing that, Zac Guildford.” You won’t see that on GrabOne, sorry!

How do you gift-wrap a giraffe?

But times are tough, and a lot of people have money worries…

Leeana H wants “a debt free xmas” and Amanda G wants “gas for the car to go to the beach.” Several people want new jobs, and their mortgages paid.

Takapuna beach is beautiful... if you can get there.

We’re also concerned about our health…

Viv G wants “A day with no aches and pains and not feel tired all the time from no sleep.” Stu C wants “No more chemo.” Aleisha M wants “A pregnant free  christmas day so I can enjoy a drink with family.” (Cheers!)

And we want more time to relax…

Leah H wants “Peace and quiet”, and Tina E wishes Santa could bring “A full nights sleep.” Libby M will settle for “A sleep in.”

But at the end of the day it’s the little things that matter…

Trudy R just wants a good book to read, and Louise W wants chocolate fudge. Sara G is thinking bigger, and wants a case of wine. Nicola T wants “My child to eat her dinner!” Julie-Ann B wants “A reel for the garden hose boring but true.” Emma D says “All I want for Christmas is SCORCHED ALMONDS!!!”

Yum! We love scorched almonds!

And family and friends…

Lisa H says, “I want nothing but to have a fantastic day with my husband and kids!” Michelle M wants “Family love and laughter.” George S wants “Good friends to share Christmas with.” Others have to be apart. Jenny W wants “A trip to the UK to see all my family I haven’t seen since i was 2” and Kerry L is wishing for “Plane tickets to visit family in the South Island.”

I think Julia D says it best:

I want heaps of smiles laughing and whanau time (PRICELESS).
